HLC Swine Registration Incentive

Heritage swine breeds are disappearing at a faster rate than all other species on the HLC Conservation List. Heritage breed swine offer unique qualities, which often no longer exist in commercial breeds. All but one of the swine breeds listed with HLC are also designated as not only domestically but “internationally” rare. In order to assist with both the registered, purebred swine population in Canada and as a result worldwide numbers, HLC decided to undertake a registration incentive program for those breeds listed as “critical” in status. To qualify:

  • The breeder/farm making the application to HLC must be a member of CSBA (Canadian Swine Breeders Association). Membership with CSBA is $25 for those with heritage breeds and is undertaken through the Canadian Livestock Records Corporation (CLRC).

  • The breeder/farm must have existing pigs registered.

  • The breeder/farm can only apply for breeds on the HLC Conservation List.

  • Preference shall be given to those who are also members of HLC.

  • Upon application HLC will determine eligibility.

  • Successful application shall translate to HLC paying the registration fee for litters over a two year period. We request applicants acknowledge the support of HLC

  • To apply email the office: office.heritagelivestockcanada@gmail.com
