Partnership with AnGRC

Working together to save heritage genetics in the event of a disaster and for the future.

Partnership with AnGRC.

You may be wondering what AnGRC stands for. The Animal Genetics Resource Centre of Canada is based in Saskatchewan. The aim of the resource centre is to operate a gene bank for livestock and poultry genetic resources. HLC encourages breeders to take up the following services provided by AnGRC.

  • AnGRC can arrange to collect semen from males of each of the species on our conservation list. The resulting semen is split - with 50% going to the cryo-bank and the remaining half being kept by the breeder for on-farm use only.

  • In the event of a sudden death or planned slaughter, testes can be sent to AnGRC for emergency semen salvage.

  • Embryos can also be donated to AnGRC.

  • AnGRC can also establish the genetic diversity within breeds, utilizing hair samples.

  • Please contact the HLC office for application forms and to learn more.
